What this tool does
The MAC generator creates random 48 bit addresses or 64 bit identifiers with a chosen format, case and flag bits. You can fix a prefix and randomize the remaining digits. A full prefix leaves no random digits, so it produces the same value each time.
How the bits work
The I/G bit selects individual (unicast) or group (multicast) delivery. The U/L bit selects locally or universally administered space. Locally administered unicast is the usual setting for test fixtures and virtual interfaces. A random value is not a registered device identity, even if its prefix resembles an IEEE assignment.
How to read the result
Each row is an independently generated address. Copy the list or download it as CSV or JSON. The options are kept in the URL fragment, which the server never receives.
Limitations
These addresses are suitable for examples and controlled tests. Before assigning one on a real network, check for collisions and follow your network's address policy. A random address does not grant ownership of a registered prefix.
